Imagine your body as a computer, storing every emotional experience in a file. Some files help us process and grow, but others—especially those linked to trauma—can become corrupted, stuck, and no longer serve us. SomatoEmotional Release (SER) is a therapeutic technique designed to help you identify and delete these outdated “files,” restoring balance and wellbeing.
What is SER and How Does it Work?
Developed by Dr. John Upledger, SER builds on the gentle principles of CranioSacral Therapy (CST). While CST focuses on physical tension and the craniosacral system, SER goes a step further by addressing the emotional energy trapped within your tissues.
During a session, your therapist uses light touch to locate areas where your body may be holding onto past emotional trauma. These unresolved emotions can surface gently and safely, allowing you to release them—sometimes with tears, memories, or a sense of relief.
Why Do Our Bodies Store Emotions?
Our bodies have an incredible capacity to protect us. When we experience trauma or overwhelming emotions, the body might “store” these feelings to help us cope. Over time, these stored emotions can contribute to physical pain, tension, or emotional patterns like anxiety and fear.
How SER Helps:
Releases stuck emotional energy in a safe, guided way.
Reduces physical discomfort linked to emotional trauma.
Promotes deep relaxation and a renewed sense of freedom.
Think of it like cleaning out an old storage closet. You sort through what’s there, keep what’s useful, and let go of what’s weighing you down. SER helps you do the same for your mind and body.
